Catherine and Pascale were neighbors of Authouart. Catherine played the violin and Pascale the cello.
While they rehearsed, Authouart would watch them and think, dream and draw. Their music would evoke images of landscapes, the sea, different people, cars, beautiful dreams and sordid reality.
The somewhat deserted, barren beaches are fairly common in the oeuvre of Authouart. Authouart was born on the Normandy coast near the city of Le Havre. Each spring and summer tens of thousands of people flock to this coast in the north of France to enjoy the beautiful beaches and rich countryside. In late fall and winter, when the tourists have all gone home, the area takes on an eerie and deserted, almost haunting air.
