La Maison Vide, the empty house, is another evocative work by Authouart. The image was originally created while on summer holiday in an old house belonging to the family. Authouart couldn't sleep, got up, and began to paint the lonely corridor. An hour or two later, as the sun was rising, his daughter, Marie, got up and Authouart saw her passing silently through the morning light. He sketched her rapidly and incorporated her into the painting. Everyone was fascinated by the picture.
La Maison Vide brings back feelings of ones childhood - of one's childhood fears, like being alone in an empty house.
