The Paris-Peking-Paris air race has been called the greatest air race in the world. It was truly an amazing aeronautical undertaking. Seventeen single and small twin-engine aircraft took off on February 28, 1987. All seventeen returned on March 27. A distance of 35,000 km was covered and 19 countries traversed.
This two piece suite was done to commemorate the race and to subsidize the entry of a friend of Authouart.
These colorful serigraphs were soon adopted as a symbol of the race and presented to national leaders and heads of state, including Deng Xiaoping the president of China, at all the various points of call.
