Does the world revolve around Times Square?
While in New York City in September, 1990, Authouart took lots of walks. As usual, he was sketching everywhere he went. He would sit on the sidewalk at Times Square for hours, listening, watching, drawing and dreaming. He dreamed mostly of the past. In the 1950s and '60s, everywhere, the world over, you could see certain symbols like Coca-Cola, Cadillacs and Elvis Presley - the icons of the time. What was it like, there on Times Square, at that time?
Authouart mixes all the images in his mind. At that time Elvis' voice was still in everyone's ears. Andy Warhol, who would later paint Elvis, can be seen walking down Broadway. Elvis is driving the Cadillac and drawing the attention of all the young girls.
