In 1985 Authouart created Taxi on Broadway, a large painting and subsequently a lithograph. As the focal point of the painting, he wanted an old Yellow Cab, the kind which so typifies New York City.
Authouart made two sketches, both pastels on wrapping paper, as studies for the larger Taxi on Broadway. In those drawings, he represented the taxis as toys. This lithograph, Yellow Cab, came from one of those studies.
